Conquering Math: Rewriting the Story That Held Me Back

I’m halfway through my MBA, and what a ride it’s been.

I just wrapped up my second semester, and guess what? I faced my biggest fear: Math.

Back in school, they made me believe I was awful at it. A 14-year-old me was labeled mathematically challenged, a label that stuck around longer than it should have.

It shaped my career choice, skewed my confidence, and shaped my self-perception. It was a mental handicap I carried for years.

This past semester, with its heavy-duty math looming over me, with big scary words like linear regression and standard deviation.

But instead of backing down, I decided to flip the script. I was going to prove those old beliefs wrong.

So, I dove in headfirst.

Long nights. Endless problem sets. Grit and determination.

And guess what?
Not only did I pass, but I aced it.

For the first time ever, I found myself actually enjoying quant-heavy content and, shockingly, enjoying it.

I proved to myself that I wasn’t less than my peers. I just needed a new approach. I needed to challenge the old narrative and tackle the problem differently. And that’s exactly what I did.

Sometimes, it’s not about the subject. It’s about rewriting your story and finding the right way to conquer it.
